Best new-season clothes for babies and kids
The cutest and most springlike new-in pieces for kids – from newborn to teen and all the stages in between
As a parent, I understand the struggle to keep kids in clothes longer than a few months. The growth, the weather (which can’t make up its mind), the obsession with various colours and patterns (theirs, not mine) – it’s a minefield. The solution? Make things easier for yourself.
Everyday kit for newborns
Whether they’re your first or your third, it’s easy to forget how little they actually need in the early months. Onesies, beanies, vests and a thicker layer for outdoor adventures are must-haves (babies lose four times as much heat as adults, whatever the weather) that’ll get plenty of wear.
For overexcited toddlers and tweens
Loose-fitting, comfortable outfits are essential so they can run, jump, slide and roll to their heart’s content, without restriction and whatever the weather.
Occasionwear they’ll actually want to wear
There’s always room for a dress-up moment. If they tend to kick off when you mention the same fancy dress or shirt you always bring out for weddings/parties, work with them to pick something they’ll be excited to wear.
Outdoor essentials
It’s the UK, so are prepare for rain at any time. Get the standard wet weather gear (wellies, all-in-ones, waterproof jackets and an umbrella), appropriate knitwear and practical trousers. A hat wouldn’t go amiss, either.
